I was really satisfied with the “darkest timeline” resolution, too. I agree with Myndi – Evil Abed is kind of scary, but to me it’s saved by the fact that nobody pays attention to him when he’s planning to cut off Jeff’s arm. If somebody had noticed, you’d be heading into dark territory. I like that it wasn’t a dramatic ending – Evil Abed was quietly defeated by friendship and altruism. Dan Harmon has talked online about a nervous breakdown, and how it informed the darker tone of Season Three (according to the Christmas episode, “if years were seasons, this December would be the December of our December”), and there’s something very inspiring about Abed’s progress in this episode and the way everybody ended the season as better people than they were when it began.
