I’m probably not saying this well, but I prefer the shows that take on some collateral damage, rather than putting their audience behind a wall and then firing into the crowd.  You can’t tell me that King of the Hill viewers don’t share a lot of Hank’s beliefs, even those that are portrayed as outdated.  Sometimes South Park portrays opinions that I share as being ill-thought out, knee-jerk reactions.  They don’t necessarily make me change my mind, but I shouldn’t be exempt from the same treatment as Scientologists or Journey fans, just because I’m watching the show and they aren’t.  I could be way off here, since my Family Guy knowledge is in no way encyclopedic, but that’s just the vibe I get from what I’ve seen.
