Puck & Lauren–Luckily, they were completely backburned this week, with the exception of the aforementioned “Punch & Judy” scheme and Lauren trying on a hideous yellow Prom dress. The blue number she ended up in was a major step up.

Tina & Mike–She sang backup for Blaine on “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You”.  He was…at the Prom.

Rachel & Jesse–Yep, show choir savant Jesse St. James was back, having flunked out of college, as the university failed to provide him his own personal Asian student to take “math and English and scientific” on his behalf.  He also didn’t know what the word recession meant.  Was he always this dumb?  Regardless, his chemistry with Rachel is palpable, and their duet on “Rolling in the Deep” was interesting and different, even though the song is everywhere right now (including ABC on the same night!) and no one can touch the mastery of the original.  The AV club on backup kind of worked, though.  I liked Rachel singing “Jar of Hearts”; I bought her emotions on it, even though I don’t love the song.  At the end of the day, the whole thing is sort of silly–Jesse coming back, apologizing (her accepting…whatever!) and becoming a “show choir consultant”– but it’s the kind of silly that I can roll with and accept, rather than some of the other bull pucky that’s been going on this season.  Speaking of which…
