During these trying times when, among so many other things, you may be quarantined in your home with young people, we’ve turned to an actual young person to settle the important pop culture issues of the day. Walker Young is here to help.

A challenge was recently brought to my attention: who are your three favorite fictional cops of all time? Some of the requirements are that one has to be either a detective or work in a precinct. So that means no Jack Ryan and no James Bond (sorry). But in one Bob’s Burgers episode Bob turns into Robo Stash but he does work in a precinct sooooooo… GET READY FOR MY LIST!

Number 1: Axel Foley Axel Foley (cleverly played by Eddie Murphy) is arguably one of the best cops that I have seen on the big screen. He is great in the movie Beverly Hills Copy His hilarious hi-jinks are just a joy to watch. My favorite scene in all three movies is when he put the banana in the tailpipe of Sgt. Taggart’s car so he could make a quick get-away. Although I think that the third movie dragged a little bit.

Number 2: Jake Peralta Jake Peralta is played by Andy Samberg and is one of the stars in one of NBC’s funniest shows,  Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Jake is a detective who works for the NYPD. The show is about Jake and his friends and the funny stuff that happens to them. There are also a lot of other great cops in that show such as Ray Holt (Andre Braugher) Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews) and Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio).

Number 3: Paul Paul is played by Tracy Morgan who is a great actor and is even better as a cop. Teamed up with Jimmy (Bruce Willis) they are an unlikely duo but it makes for a great movie. Paul is kind of a dumb cop but he still gets the job done. I would completely recommend Cop Out as a movie to watch.

Honorable Mention: Allen Gamble Allen is hilariously played by Will Ferrell, his funny personality paired with Mark Wahlberg (Terry Hoitz) in The Other Guys is awesome. How can anyone forget the fully improvised line about the lion eating piranhas? The movie is just an all-around funny show and I would completely recommend it.

So these are my favorite three cops of all time. If you agree or disagree, take a while to figure out your three favorite cops, and then read this again and then agree that I am right. No, but seriously, think about your favorite cops and then think about why, then go and watch the movie or your favorite episode just to give you something to do.
