I hope I’m not setting myself up for a huge let-down. But, I have very high hopes for The Muppets, the first full length Muppet movie in years, which open Thanksgiving weekend. There have been many (weak) attempts at Muppet movies and specials over the past decade and I felt most of them missed the mark. I don’t blame anyone, because when someone like Jim Henson has a clear vision and voice for his entire Muppet world, it’s difficult for someone to come along and pick up right where a genius left off.
This is why I’m hoping beyond hope that Jason Segel gets this right. From everything I’ve heard, his long held dream was to create and write a new Muppet movie for a new generation. He’s like a famous, connected version of me. I want to do the same thing, but I went about it the wrong way …I graduated college and got a desk job and never pursued any creative endeavors. Segel, on the other hand, got into movies and managed to appear in a few hit movies, and now he has the clout to try and pull off something like this.
