But back to Joshua …nothing he sang last night sounded like a Chris Brown, Ne Yo, Usher, or Bruno Mars. Even his cover of “Imagine” couldn’t pass for “folk” or “indie” or “coffee house-ish”. He might win, who knows. But if he does, in a year you’ll ask yourself, “hey, what happened to Joshua?” You’ll think he must’ve fizzled out and never released a CD or something, but actually he’ll be having a pretty good year on R&B stations across the country. But he won’t be on enough radio stations and won’t demand the stage time on Leno, Kimmel, Letterman, and Fallon. Sometimes I think it really sucks that music is so fragmented and miss true Top-40 stations that truly play the Top-40 songs. But then I realize, hey, that makes me sound old and I might as well say I miss big-band music and sock hops. Get over it, I tell myself. Things change. Shut up and listen to Adele again.
