Her next two songs …yeesh. She went back to her over-the-top habits and over sang. She picked Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” and Jimmy Iovine picked “I’ll be There” which was a hit by The Jackson 5 and Mariah Carey years later. It seems judges and consultants everywhere want her to sing more Mariah, but I really wish they would’ve picked her some unremarkable songs and pushed her to make them remarkable with her remarkable voice. Instead, on the biggest night of her singing career, Jimmy Iovine picked a song made famous by two music icons and, though her voice is huge, she wilted in their shadow. Can things “wilt” in a shadow? I’m looking for a metaphor that means she paled in comparison. Leave a comment if you’ve got a better metaphor.
