It’s a short schedule and I’m writing this after midnight. So if I have a point to make, it’s that you should watch Baskets.
Here’s what to watch on TV this week!
Man, there’s nothing to watch tonight. HBO is showing the underperforming Dwayne Johnson movie Skyscraper, and my friend Sam told me there’s a really good villain performance in there, so I’m probably going to try to watch it.
10-11 Press Your Luck – SERIES PREMIERE! I haven’t been super into the ABC game show revivals, but the original show was so gimmicky and it’ll be fun to see how they update it. I mean, with any luck, it’s going to be like that sketch from I Think You Should Leave. Also, it’s hosted by Elizabeth Banks who you’d think would be too busy for this nonsense.
Hey, Game 7 of the Hockey Finals is on NBC tonight, but if they don’t need seven games, then maybe there’s going to be a new episode of American Ninja Warrior. I don’t know for sure, though.
8-9 The Amazing Race – This week, it’s Croatia and there’s a poetry-themed challenge. Boy, Rachel McElroy’s loyalties are going to be split between the St. Louis Blues and a Poetry Corner. I listen to too many podcasts is what I’m saying. Also, this is the best season of Amazing Race in years and I wish you would join me.
8-9 MasterChef – The official listing refers to the people as “cheftestants”, which is a Top Chef thing and FOX needs to get their house in order with regard to their listings.
10-11 Krypton – SEASON PREMIERE! I didn’t care for the first season and I probably won’t watch this season, but they have an online ad that’s absolutely hysterical. The premise is that Superman’s greatest enemies are coming to the show. And they show you Brainiac, who’s a top three Superman villain. Cool. Then there’s Doomsday. Killed Superman, yes, definitely a greatest enemy. Zod. Yeah, I’ll buy that. Lobo. A little more niche but has a fun history of Superman fights and would be a cool addition to the show. And…. Seg. Who the hell is Seg? I’ve never heard of that guy and I know a lot about Superman. And in his intro video, where everybody does something cool, he looks down at what appears to be his cell phone. They definitely saved the best for last!
10-10:30 Archer: 1999 – Pam’s sandwich releases something deep inside the crew. The title is “The Leftovers” which has me hoping that one of my favorite shows ever is going to riff on another of my favorite shows ever, but it’s likely they’re just referring to actual leftovers.
8:30-9:30 A.P. Bio – SERIES FINALE! Yes, I said series. Unless somebody steps up to save a very funny show. And I know everybody expects streaming services to pick up cancelled networks shows and that rarely actually happens, but Netflix opened the floodgates by saving Designated Survivor, an aggressively average show. So the way I see it, they owe us!
10-10:30 Baskets – SEASON PREMIERE! This show is amazing and we can’t be friends if you don’t watch it. Now, this week’s listing says “Susan nearly kills Ronald Reagan”. Now, I’m an expert on this show, but I don’t know who Susan is. But I do know that Ronald Reagan is Christine’s cat, which puts a very different spin on that listing.
8-9 Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – Two planets need saving! Is one of them Earth? Because I’m not sure I want my tax dollars going to interstellar operations with no benefit on Earth.
8-10 BattleBots – Look, robots are going to fight and it’s going to be awesome. But let’s give it up for new correspondent Jenny Taft. I don’t know whether she’s a fantastic interviewer or if the kind of nerds who build robots are easily influenced by a pretty lady, but she got actual insights out of the designers and it was really interesting. Nice job!
Jessica Jones – The final season of Netflix’s last Marvel show! It’s the end of an era and hopefully some of those characters are going to get a second life on Hulu or elsewhere. This is an emotional time for me.
Too Old To Die Young – Ed Brubaker co-writes this crime series which is enough for me. The Drive guy directs, but he’s too erratic to be a positive. He’s value neutral.
8-9:25 Luther – I’m kind of waiting until the miniseries is over to watch this all in one big binge, so I don’t know what Luther is up do. It’s probably really cool, though.
9-10 Fear the Walking Dead – A misunderstanding with a desperate survivor leads to trouble. Hey, you know what could make this show better? Matt Frewer! I’m not completely sold on their attempts to tie this show into those dumb Rick Grimes movies that are never going to happen, but we’ll see how that plays out.

“Yeah, well, it’s official. I mean, you’re gettin’… really…. good at headbuttin’.” — Pickles
